Fliegenspitz – a New Neighbourhood Square
A new square is beeing realised in the heart of the Neusiedlerviertel neighbourhood in the town of Mödling in Lower Austria.
The Fliegenspitz square is part of a development project replacing the former school Gendarmariezentralschule.
In 2017 the residents were involved in a participation process carried out by Stadtteilnetzwerk,
including two online surveys and street discussions.
The design of Fliegenspitz builds on the inputs of the participants: The selection of plants chosen is near-natural.
In bloom and in autumn colours, grasses, bulbs, shrubs and trees invite to experience the seasons.
In the centre of the square are the stairs with a babbeling brooklet. The modern roof construction is a landmark and offers shade and shelter.
Drinking water and an information board complete the neighbourhood infrastructure.

The urban space has an open design and is accessible for diverse user groups. Situated on everyday walking connections,
the new square invites to take a break, to meet neighbours, to rest or to play. In addition, the square offers space for temporary
use such as a small market or a neighbourhood party. With this project, the town of Mödling is setting a new communicative accent in this
growing neighbourhood.
