Upcycling Hub
West of Wiener Neustadt, a disposal site for aluminium slag will be redeveloped during the next decade.
The BALSA Bundesaltlastensanierungsgesellschaft m. b. H. has announced an open competition
of ideas for this area after the removal of the aluminium waste. The team of miss_vdr
architektur and tilia büro für landschaftsplanung won the fourth prize.
As this site is connected to rubbish, we picked up this issue but changed the focus
from a disposal site towards an upcycling hub. Garbage is transfered into a resource,
new ways of treatment and new possibilities for reuse can be developed in the upcycling laboratory.

The upcycling think tank will create innovative ideas and conduct research towards an implementation of upcycling.
Exhibitions show new treatments and products and they are a central means of public relations.
The project is open to participation: it offers a depot for diverse materials, repair and design studios
and a recycling tower with a view on future perspectives.
Buildings and open spaces can be realised step by step.
An efficient use of recycling materials helps to reduce the investments.
